Saint Jude - What You Don't Want Me To Be

‘WYDWMTB’ demonstrates Jude experimenting with sampling to repurpose and reimagine narrative. Cuts from Steve Reich and Lee Moses are mixed with some 808 bass and a contributory verse from Delaware rapper Zeke Ultra, alongside Jude’s own unmistakable vocals. In one sample, revered soul singer Lee Moses can be heard pleading with God: “Don’t make me do / what you don’t want me to do”: a line which sent Jude spiralling on musings of free will and why an omnipotent god would allow things which are perceived to be unreligious to take place.
