Angus' practice is motivated by the stories and materials that connect people with the land. His assemblages, carvings and found objects attempt to scrape back some kind of meaning beyond their status as artworks in a system of value and exchange.

6 groups of musicians will be creating tracks with this sculpture/instrument and 5 others built by artists Mathilda Bennett-Greene, Jonas Pequeno & Joseph Bradley Hill later this month ‼️ Each group will have 6 hours to create as many tracks as they would like with the group of sculptures/instruments.

Much of Joe’s practice surrounds the themes of interpretation, permutation, participation, improvisation and communication: how people experience the same thing completely differently, and the infinite (or finite) ways of doing “the same thing”. Other elements that feed into his work include the beauty of language (including the history of our alphabet and writing), the (im)possibilities of a universal language, unlimited semiosis and the act of collecting. A lot of his work has stemmed from his research into wunderkammer and the curiosity that can be harvested from physical and digital waste. He makes works using materials found on meandering flâneuristic walks through real and digital space, allowing his finds to dictate the outcome. Joe is also the founder and host of Late Works.
